Celebrating Christmas

RSS

Come and celebrate Christmas with us,
in your village church or one of our other churches.

Across our four churches, we have a variety of special events and services planned for the Christmas season.  We invite you to join us at one or more of the following.

Hardwick, St. Leonard's

Saturday 8 December 2018
10am to 12 Noon - Christmas Coffee Morning and Christmas Tree Festival

Come and get into the Christmas spirit at our Christmas Coffee Morning with Christmas Cracker Tombola, a Christmas themed cake and produce stall, a Christmas Table Decoration stall, and - of course - a seasonal cuppa and a chat with friends.  All of this takes place in the village hall (NN9 5AL).

Also, in our village church, there will be our annual Christmas Tree Festival.  The theme for this year's festival is "Countries of the World".  If you'd like to decorate a tree, it should be 4ft or less tall.  For more details, please contact Jackie Prime on 01933 223137.

The church is also open on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday morning and afternoon.

Sunday 23 December 2018
6pm - Festival of Lessons and Carols by Candlelight

Come and be part of our traditional service of well-known Christmas carols and Bible readings.  Listen anew to the story of Jesus' birth and give thanks for Jesus, the Light of our World.  As the service unfolds the Nativity figures will be added to the crib scene.  Do stay on for seasonal refreshments after the service.

Christmas Day
8am - Christmas Communion with Carols

What better way to begin your Christmas morning than sharing as a village in a short and uplifting service of Holy Communion.  Come and sing carols, hear Christmas readings and thank God for Jesus, and then go home to prepare and share in your Christmas lunch.

Mears Ashby, All Saints

Sunday 9 December 2018
4
pm - Advent Carols Service

Take a break from the busyness of preparing for Christmas to think about why a baby was born for us over 2,000 years ago... Jesus, the Light of our World.  Come and sing Advent Carols and listen to well-known Bible readings that point the way to the story of Christmas.

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
and ransom captive Israel,
that mourns in lonely exile here,
until the Son of God appear.

Sunday 23 December 2018
4pm - Festival of Lessons and Carols by Candlelight

Come and be part of our traditional service of well-known Christmas carols and Bible readings; our singing will be guided and enhanced by our benefice choir.  Listen anew to the story of Jesus' birth and give thanks for Jesus, the Light of our World.  As the service unfolds the Nativity figures will be added to the crib scene.  Do stay on for mulled wine and mince pies after the service.

Christmas Eve
11.30pm - Midnight Mass with Carols

Come to church as Christmas Eve prepares to turn into Christmas Day.  Our benefice celebrations start with a traditional Midnight Mass service at All Saints church led by Bishop John, Bishop of Brixworth and our vicar Revd Katrina.  Celebrate with us as Christmas Day begins and the baby Jesus is placed in his crib.  Hear again of the story of his birth on the first Christmas night, enjoy singing carols and take the time to reflect on what Christmas - and indeed, life - is all about.

Silent night, holy night.
All is calm, all is bright,
round yon virgin mother and child;
holy infant, so tender and mild,
sleep in heavenly peace,
sleep in heavenly peace.

Overstone, St. Nicholas

Christmas Eve
4pm - Messy Christingles for all the family

Come and celebrate Christmas as a family by joining in Christingle-themed crafts, singing well-known and loved Christmas carols, and - of course - sampling our seasonal snacks.  Enjoy making your Christingles as we listen again to what each element means.  And then there is that magical moment when all the candles are lit and, as we gaze into the flickering flames, we sense the true meaning of Christmas... Jesus is the Light of our World.

Sywell, St. Peter & St. Paul

Sunday 23 December 2018
11am Village Carol Service with Nativity scene

Come and sing Christmas carols and listen as the story of Christmas unfolds with the help of Bible readings and poems.  Watch as the Nativity figures are added to the crib scene.  It's a great well to celebrate as a village God's gift to us all - Jesus, the Light of our World.  Sample too our seasonal refreshments.

Christmas Day
10am - Christmas Communion with Carols

What better way to begin your Christmas morning than sharing as a village in a short and uplifting service of Holy Communion.  Come and sing carols, hear Christmas readings and thank God for Jesus, and then go home to prepare and share in your Christmas lunch.

Joy to the world! The Lord is come;
let earth receive her King;
let every heart prepare him room,
and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven and heaven and nature sing.
