Christmas Shoebox Appeal

RSS

Last year, across our four villages, we collected 100 shoeboxes filled with Christmas gifts for children in need in other countries.  Operation Christmas Child is not going to let the coronavirus get in the way of bringing a little happiness to these children at Christmas.  We are going to be taking part again in 2020.

Here are the basic instructions:

Step 1 - The Shoebox

Find a medium-sized shoebox, wrap the box and lid separately in Christmas or other colourful paper, and attach a label showing whether your box is for a boy or a girl, and for which age range: 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14 years old.  If you don't have a shoebox, you can always ask a shoe shop for one of their empty ones.

Step 2 - Fill with gifts

Think about your child and fill your shoeboxes with fun toys - such as cuddly toys (with CE labels), dolls, toy cars, trains and trucks, yo-yo, slinky spring, skipping rope or balls; with school supplies - such as pens, pencils and sharpeners, notebooks and colouring books, solar-powered calculators; with hygiene items - such as toothbrush (but - please - no toothpaste), bars of wrapped soap, flannel, comb or hairbrush; and with other items - such as hat, cap, scarf, gloves, sunglasses, hair accessories, jewellery set or wind up torch.

Please note:  Due to more stringent import regulations, sweets, chocolates and other food items can no longer be included in the boxes.  Also, you cannot include any lotions or liquids, medicines, sharp or fragile items, or war-related items.

Step 3 - Drop off your shoebox by Friday 6 November 2020

Place a rubber band around your filled shoebox and drop it off at one of the following locations by Friday 6 November 2020.  If you would like to help with the cost of sorting and shipping boxes, and help local volunteers to organise a safe Christmas activity for the children, please include a £5 cheque made payable to Samaritan's Purse or cash in an envelope with your shoebox.

Option 1 - Bring your shoebox to a church service
Option 2 - Leave your shoebox in one of our open churches on a Sunday afternoon, 12 Noon to 4pm
(Hardwick, Mears Ashby and Overstone)
Option 3 - Take your shoebox to one of our weekday collection points:
Mears Ashby - the porch at the Vicarage, 46 Wellingborough Road
Sywell - the veranda of Sywell Village Hall
  Sywell - 8 Sywell Village

Alternatively, you can fill a box online at Samaritan's Purse.  The cost is £20, which includes £5 towards the cost of shipping.  Use this LINK to fill a box online.

If you have any questions, please contact Maureen Coles on 01604 494160 or Revd Katrina on 01604 812907.
