Christmas Shoebox Appeal

RSS

Last year, across our four villages, the WI and Higham Church, we collected 106 shoeboxes (including - for the first-time - 38 boxes from Mears Ashby and Hardwick).  And now it's time to take part in the 2019 Christmas Shoebox Appeal and brighten the lives of young boys and girls in need.  Here are the basic instructions.

Step 1 - The Shoebox

Get a medium-sized shoebox, wrap the box and lid separately in Christmas or colourful paper, and attach a label showing whether the box is for a boy or a girl, and for which age range: 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14 years old.  If you don't have a shoebox, you can always ask a shoe shop for one of their empty ones.

Step 2 - Fill with gifts

Think about the child who will receive your shoebox at Christmas.  What would they love to see inside when they lift the lid on Christmas morning?  You can fill your box with a mixture of fun toys, school supplies, hygiene and other items.  Some good things to include are:

Toys:  Dolls or soft toys (with CE label), toy cars, trains or trucks, yo-yo or skipping rope, Lego blocks or a small ball, small puzzles, etc.

School Supplies:  Pens, pencils and pencil sharpeners, crayons and colouring pencils, colouring pads or notebooks, solar calculators or rulers, etc.

Hygiene Items:  Toothbrush, bars of wrapped soap, flannel, comb or hairbrush.

Other Items:  Hat, gloves or scarf, sunglasses, hair accessories, jewellery set, wind-up torch, slinky spring, etc.

Do not include... Used or damaged items, liquids or lotions, toothpaste, medicines, items relating to war (e.g. toy gun), politics or religion, sharp or fragile objects (e.g. mirrors), sweets, chocolates or other food items, playing cards (4 Suit variety), hand-made or knitted stuffed toys, and clothing other than as listed above.

Step 3 - Drop off your shoxbox by 31 October 2019

Place a rubber band around your closed shoebox and deliver it to either Maureen Coles or Revd Katrina by 31 October 2019.

Maureen Coles:  Badgers Cottage, 8 Sywell Village, NN6 0BQ - 01604 494160

Revd Katrina:  The Vicarage, 46 Wellingborough Road, Mears Ashby, NN6 0DZ - 01604 812907 or 07710 464675

If you would like to help with the cost of sorting and shipping the boxes, and help local volunteers organise a Christmas event for the children, please include a £5 cheque made payable to Samaritan's Purse or cash in an envelope with your shoebox.

Thank you for your support.

Maureen Coles and Revd Katrina
