D-Day 80

Remembering D-Day 80 years on

On 6 June 1944, thousands of allied forces landed on the beaches in Normandy as planes flew overhead.  The liberation of mainland Europe had begun, and people could begin to hope that there would be an end to the pain and suffering.  Countless lives would be lost over the coming months; civlians as well as those in the armed forces.  Families across Europe would bear the scars for decades to come, and many still live with the lasting effects of the closing stages of the Second World War.  On this 80th Anniversary, we remember the bravery and sacrifice of those who landed on the beaches, and pray for the world they fought to save.

If you would like to remember with us, we have an Act of Remembrance at 11am on 6 June 2024.  We will gather around the War Memorial at All Saints Church, Mears Ashby, NN6 0DN.

You may also wish to say this prayer.

A prayer for the 80th Anniversary of D-Day

Loving God, we remember those
who 80 years ago took part in the D-Day landings;
those who fell on the beaches,
those who fought on into France
and fell in foreign fields,
and those who came home,
after the war, changed by their experiences.
Be with the veterans and their families
on this day of remembering.
We pray for peace across the globe,
may your will be done on earth,
as in heaven.
