Heavenly Lord,
you long for the world's salvation:
stir us from apathy,
restrain us from excess
and revive in us new hope
that all creation will one day be healed
in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect for Second Sunday before Advent
This week, we are in Kingdom season and we are thinking about Christ as our King and how he will return one day to rule and judge on earth as he is doing in heaven. The Church, and the world has been waiting nearly 2,000 years for his return. Over the centuries, we have experienced all of the signs that could herald his return - wars, earthquakes, famines, plagues - and still we are waiting. It is a lesson in trusting in our Lord's promises and living by his teaching.
