Heavenly Father,
your Son battled with the powers of darkness,
and grew closer to you in the desert:
help us to use these days to grow in wisdom and prayer
that we may witness to your saving love
in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect for Lent 1
As Lent begins, we find Jesus out in the wilderness - alone with his thoughts, alone with his Father in heaven. The desert is a place where he can draw closer to the one who loves him unconditionally. His self-discipline includes fasting. Denying what his body craves, Jesus places his trust in God's loving care and provision. It is an invitation to us to do the same. Daily, we are invited to pause in stillness and reflect on our relationship with our amazing God who loves us. What is his will for our lives? How are we loving him and our neighbours as well as ourselves.
What will you do this Lent to grow in your trust in God's loving presence and generous providing?
May you feel yourself to be in God's hands.
