Prayers and Reflections for use at home

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.

Walter Chalmers Smith (1824-1908)

We have come to the concluding part of Jesus' lesson to his team and to the crowds.  He offers them a stark choice: follow me or stay with your family and friends.  It is a very extreme choice.  He is saying, 'Follow me as your Messiah and you will be rejected by those you love most in this world, or reject me and face the consequences of not listening to God's words.'  It was a tough decision then and can be a tough one now.  This week's Gospel reading is an opportunity to contemplate the blessings and costs of following Jesus in our daily lives.

May God's love give you hope that you are on the right path in life.

Every blessing,

Revd Katrina (Vicar)
